Have you ever sat down outdoors to do a bit of work and after completing a few papers you set them down in a pile and whoosh! The wind sweeps down and carries them off. With no appreciation of the hard work you have put into it, the wind just carries it away. Paul Cocksedge’s poetic installation brings us back to the days of paper and the carefree wind, with 200 glowing and floating papers.

The Bourrasque Light Installation – A Swarm of Light Papers

The Bourrasque light installation was originally designed and displayed in the courtyard of Lyon’s Hotel de Ville, and was the “talk of the town” at last year’s annual Festival of Light. This light installation measured 82 feet in length and had an average of about 49 feet above the ground.

Paul Cocksedge, the designer, reflects on his fascination with light: ‘I’ve been fascinated for a long time by the various properties of light: how it emanates, how it diffuses, bends, reflects, and scatters. With these EL sheets I’ve been able to explore much further the idea of light as a flat object, as something touchable and malleable – not housed in a glass bulb or a neon strip, but an object you can bend and twist – and almost see it come alive in your hands…’
